Simhalasarthabahu Storytelling
Recounting a Buddhist Story (Avadana) of Sea merchants shipwrecked, captured by rakshasis, with only the hero escaping with the aid of the bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara in the form of a white horse. The video has insertions of scenes from a long banner painting (bilampau) hung in Thah Bahi during the month of Gumla, illustrating main incidents in the story. Video created during the exhibition, “Dharma and Punya: Buddhist Ritual Art of Nepal” at the Cantor Art Gallery, College of the Holy Cross, Fall 2019.
