Chanting Prajñāpāramitā Sūtras

Hundreds of copies of this text exist in Newar households. They were almost all used for merit-making rituals: the text itself was the focus of offerings, pusta pūjā; or in addition to this worship, a vajrācārya pandit would be called to read it. This is most often done during the monsoon Newar holy month, Guṃlā. Newar tradition conforms to the exhortation in this text itself, to read, worship, and propagate it in the world.
